Fourteen hours on the Cuillin yesterday, going from dawn until after dusk. Michael was interested in the Munros, so we started at Gillean with a plan to see how far we got by darkness. Turned out, that was the Inaccessible Pinnacle – seven Munros down, and a majority-way along the ridge. Quite happy with that under the circumstances, as conditions on the ridge crest were tricky. Verglas in the morning coated every surface, which later melted to wet snow lying on rock slabs: a greasy, slippery combination. We finished with a quick headtorch lap of the ‘In Pinn’ as it got dark, and before the evening chill made everything icy again. Stunning full Moon on the walk out.
Southern Cuillin yesterday. Sgurr MhicChoinnich was in nice wintry condition, and great to move together. Any old snow was hard, with some overnight fresh powder on the rocks. This combined with rising mists to create a bit of an alpine atmosphere. We abbed off MhicChoinnich, went over Sgùrr Alasdair and abbed into the TD Gap.
Thereafter things went a lot more spring-like for the last two Munros and the walk out to Glen Brittle was full-on sunny.
Feels like spring – for the moment at least, as these things always have a habit of switching back and forth before winter gives in completely. Another superb day on the hill.
