Glen Brittle Memorial Hut

Welcome to the booking page for the Glen Brittle Memorial Hut. The hut sleeps 20* and is open all year to members of clubs affiliated with the BMC or Mountaineering Scotland or to individual members of these organisations and, occasionally, to other groups by special arrangement. Children are welcome but the hut is not laid out nor equipped with them in mind and must be under the close supervision of their parent/carer at all times.

Terms & Conditions of Booking

* January 2022
The ongoing Covid-19 pandemic has presented challenges to running the hut but we hope you will still be able to visit and that the temporary Covid-control measures we have put in place can be removed as soon as possible. Hut occupancy is currently limited to a total of 14 (normally 20) unless for exclusive use. We also ask you not to arrive until after 1800 hours on the first day of your booking and on departure to vacate the hut by 1000 hours. Our normal terms and conditions have been updated to take into account the Covid situation and are set out below. Use of the hut is dependent on strict adherence to the following:-

  1. The person making the booking must either be an individual member or member of a club affiliated to Mountaineering Scotland or the BMC (including international).
  2. Bookings may only be made 12 months in advance. If made, bookings will be declined but details held until the date which is 12 months before the date of arrival. Your booking will then be confirmed unless several clubs have asked for the same date, in which case a draw will be made by an independent person. In practice this only applies to bookings in May and June.
  3. Maximum stay is 8 days. In May and June preference is given to clubs booking full weeks.
  4. Fees are currently £20 (18 years or over) £10 (under 18s) per night.
  5. Bookings made online are provisional only until confirmed by the bookings secretary. The full balance (non-refundable) is normally payable 12 weeks before date of arrival and if not paid, accommodation becomes available to others but due to the Covid situation please do not make any payment at present until advised to do so by the bookings secretary.
  6. The person making the booking as in 1. above is responsible for ensuring that all members of their group comply fully with these terms and conditions and also to any additional instructions/rules, including those on cleaning prior to departure, as given by the bookings secretary and/or displayed in the hut.
  7. The size and composition of the group must not exceed the number agreed with the bookings secretary.
  8. The person making the booking is responsible for ensuring all members of their party are familiar with the fire safety instructions as displayed in the hut.
  9. The person or group/club who made the booking will be responsible for any damage to the building and its contents as a result of their use.
  10. Membership number, either individual or club, should be quoted on booking and in the register in the hut. The register in the hut should be signed on arrival with dates of stay and membership number.
  11. Children are welcome but the hut is not laid out nor equipped with them in mind and must be under the close supervision of their parent/carer at all times. Members wishing to bring anyone under the age of 18 need to comply with the guidelines on Child Protection at Mountaineering Scotland.
  12. No animals other than guide dogs are allowed in the hut.
  13. Strictly no smoking in the hut nor in the grounds.
  14. Park in car park if possible. Ensure gate is shut as cattle and sheep may get in.

Additional conditions of use due to Covid-19
  15. Hut occupancy is currently limited to a total of 14 (normally 20) in the hut unless for exclusive use. This is to facilitate social distancing.
  16. You must only enter the hut on the agreed dates, arriving not before 1800 hours, and must leave on the date agreed with the bookings secretary – departing by 1000 hours. No-one else should enter the hut without prior agreement with the bookings secretary, other than in an emergency situation.
  17. Before entering the hut, the person responsible for the group must have recorded “track and trace” details of every member of their group ie full name, email address, phone number/s. This must be made available to the bookings secretary if requested.
  18. It is strongly recommended that all persons using the hut have been fully vaccinated. You should take a lateral flow test as close as possible to setting off on your journey to the hut and also whilst at the hut if you have any concerns you may have been exposed to Covid or are developing symptoms.
  19. No-one displaying symptoms of Covid, who is awaiting test results, who has tested positive or who has been required to self-isolate may enter the hut.
  20. Due attention should be given to personal hygiene/infection control measures during your stay, including (but not limited to) maintaining adequate ventilation, regularly cleaning frequent touch points, washing hands before eating, not sharing eating/drinking vessels and to social distancing etc. Hand sanitiser and suitable cleaning products are provided. It is your choice whether to use the drying room.
  21. Cleaning the hut properly prior to departure is particularly important to enable other groups to use the hut safely. Please use the care you would expect from the group who left the hut before you. (See separate cleaning procedure document provided on confirmation of booking). The outgoing group should have cleaned the hut before departure but you may wish to wipe down key surfaces/touch points on arrival.
  22. Please bring and use your own supply of tea towels.
  23. Please ensure you/your group members have masks readily available should these need to be worn (for example, in an emergency situation when additional persons may need to enter the hut).
  24. If anyone develops any symptoms/tests positive during your visit you should follow current Scottish Government requirements with respect to further testing, self-isolating etc. In all such situations hut users must avoid coming into contact with any other individuals. Whilst vacating the hut/awaiting advice/test results hut users must maintain social distancing and pay particular attention to personal hygiene and cleaning. Special attention should be paid to ensuring adequate ventilation in the hut. You must advise the bookings secretary as soon as possible.

We do hope your visit is able to go ahead and that it is a good one! If you are unable to visit us this year, we look forward to seeing you at Glen Brittle Memorial Hut sometime in the future.
